Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions are written for Tamarind Tree Cooking School (School) and outline how you can expect us to treat you as a guest, what we expect from you while at the school, and also how we will treat bookings, refunds and special requests.
Bookings
Bookings for classes and or events can be made on our website, direct in person, by phone or via third party services such as the TripAdvisor website.
Information required at time of booking
At the time of booking, the following information is required by the School.
Number of adults (13 years old and above)
Number of children (8-12 years old)
Name and contact details of the lead guest including telephone number, and pick-up location for the booking
If any guest in the booking has food allergies or dietary restrictions, the School must be made aware at the time of booking.
Payment
In order to guarantee your place at School, we prefer payment for classes to be made in advance, but may in some cases allow payment to be made in cash on the day of the class/event. Payment may be made in various currencies, however once paid, the booking is assumed to be made in Thai Baht.
Prices
Prices for classes are shown on our website and in brochures as well as a number of third party online platforms such as TripAdvisor. Prices may vary on different platforms or websites for the same class or event. Guests should not expect any compensation if they find the same class or event offered elsewhere at a more competitive price after booking.
Cancellations and changes by the guest
We will accept and provide refunds for bookings which are cancelled as follows.
For bookings on the day of, and the day before class: no refund
For bookings 2 days or more before class: a full refund less any booking costs will be offered. The booking costs relates to charges the School bears for taking and returning payments.
Guests may request to change the date of their booking at any time. The School will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests for changes to bookings but reserves the right to refuse requests for changes.
Cancellations and changes by the School
The School reserves the right to cancel bookings for any reason. However, guests and the School both understand that the School will make best efforts to avoid cancelling any bookings without good reason.
Transport to and from the School
The School is located at a remote location deep in the Samui jungle with access via a tricky, rocky dirt track on high mountain roads which are dangerous for motorcycles. It is not recommended for guests to make their own way to School unless they are already familiar with the route and the location. Guests are offered transportation to and from the School inclusive in the cost of classes for most locations on Samui, and at a small surcharge for guests coming from the far south of Samui (eg Taling Ngam, Lipa Noi).
Pick-up and drop off
Guests will be informed of the pick-up time prior to the class, usually at least the day before. Unless otherwise agreed, the pick-up time for Jungle Kitchen classes should be between 1-2.30pm and returned to their starting point at about 7pm
The School makes use of various forms of transport including taxis for the trip to Chilling Hill depending on the size of the group.
General
Class Size
We will keep cooking class sizes small, no more than 8 guests unless previously agreed with the guests. We will stop taking bookings for any class when we have reached 6 guests, although group bookings may take the number of guests to 8. In normal cases we will not run classes of 1 person unless a private class has been booked.
For events such as Open Kitchen, we may accept larger numbers of guests.

Guests will be informed of the pick-up time prior to the class, usually at least the day before. Unless otherwise agreed, the pick-up time for Jungle Kitchen classes should be between 1-2.30pm. Please try to meet at the time agreed or contact the School if a significant delay is expected for any reason.
The School reserves the right to count a booking as a no-show if not at the pick-up location more than half an hour after the agreed time. In that case, no refund will be offered.
Guests not taking part in class
Chilling Hill has extensive gardens and an independent restaurant and bar/café separate to the School. Guests who are not taking part in the class may join the group at Chilling Hill at any time and make use of the facilities. Transportation for guests not taking part in class can be provided on request for an additional fee.
Children
Please note that the Jungle Kitchen or other classes/events offered by the school can be dangerous or young children and adults who are young at heart. Open flames, hot charcoal, boiling oil and sharp knives are all present in the kitchen.
Children from the age of 8-12 years old may take part in class when supervised by an adult, and may be offered a discounted rate.
Sadly, the School believes that children under the age of 8 years old should not be present in the Jungle Kitchen during class, but may instead enjoy the gardens at Chilling Hill instead.
Smoking
No smoking in the Jungle Kitchen. Guests may however smoke around the gardens at Chilling Hill when on a break from class.
Pets
Please do not bring pets to School.
Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers are available for purchase and will be honoured for a class for the period stated on the voucher.
Food Allergies & Accidents
A safe environment for guests during class is a priority. Guests should note that it is their own responsibility to inform the School, at the time of booking, of any food allergies which may cause a problem in class. The School will take appropriate measure in respect of allergy issues which have been notified to the School.
However, guests also accept that due to the nature of cooking and food preparation, there are inherent dangers in almost all kitchens including the Jungle Kitchen and that accidents which do not result from gross negligence of the School are not the responsibility or liability of the School.
Information Collected During Bookings and Classes
The School needs to collect some information from guests during booking and may collect further information from guests during or after class or events. The School will not share that information with third parties other than for use directly related to activities around the School, for example with third party transport providers to detail where to pick-up guests.
The School may, with the permission of guests, photos during the day and will share those photos with guests who were present in class on the same day. Unless otherwise agreed, the School may also use those photos in its’ social media, website and other promotional material. The School aims to please guests and will not use inappropriate or intentionally offensive content in any way.
These terms and conditions are valid from 1stDecember 2019 and will be updated from time to time as appropriate.
